This meta-analysis reports a statistically significant pooled effect favouring homeopathy over placebo, which superficially opposes the consensus. However, it diverges from the consensus primarily because of methodological limitations the authors themselves acknowledge: the included trials are highly heterogeneous in design, condition, and remedy, and the pooled effect is driven substantially by lower-quality trials. This is a classic case of cherry-picking through selective pooling — aggregating studies of widely varying quality allows small, biased trial results to generate an apparently positive signal. The consensus position, informed by bias-adjusted analyses and overviews of systematic reviews, holds that such effects disappear when study quality is properly accounted for, meaning the counter-claim suffers from a failure to adequately correct for publication bias and methodological confounding.
